Agreement and confirmation marker

goes at the end of a sentence when you expect the listener to share an observation, agree with you, or confirm something.

Building shared ground

Use when the listener can reasonably notice, know, feel, or check the same thing. It turns a plain statement toward the listener, often making it warmer and less one-sided.

Agreement and confirmation

The same ending can invite agreement about an observation or lightly confirm a shared fact or plan.

Lovely weather today, isn't it?

Analyze

The weather is directly available to both speakers, so this naturally invites agreement.

We're meeting at nine tomorrow, right?

Analyze

Here the speaker lightly checks a plan that should already be shared.

This view is beautiful, isn't it?

Analyze

The polite ending still warmly invites the listener to share the reaction.

Tone changes the balance

A warm, relaxed tone often invites agreement, while a more questioning tone can make the sentence a clearer confirmation. Context matters too: a comment about something both people can see usually feels like shared appreciation, while a sentence about a schedule is more likely to check a fact.

Checking a shared plan

A

We're meeting at nine tomorrow, right?

Analyze
B

Yes, at the station's east exit.

Analyze

The first speaker is not asking for completely new information; they are checking their understanding of an existing plan.

Shared agreement versus telling

looks for or builds agreement with the listener. By contrast, presents information toward the listener more assertively, often because the speaker thinks the listener should know it.

It's already seven, you know.

Analyze

This neighboring use tells or alerts the listener rather than checking shared ground.
