How to express that something is broken into pieces, crushed, or destroyed, often violently or completely.
Something is shattered or broken into many fragments.
Literally 'become powder'. The most common way to say something is smashed to bits.
The vase fell and was smashed to pieces.
To break into pieces, shatter. Often used for hard objects like glass or stone.
The window glass was smashed.
To break, crack, or split. More general than 'smashed', but can be used for things like plates or screens.
My smartphone screen got smashed.
Something is pressed or hit so hard that it loses its shape.
Something is violently broken beyond repair, often in an accident or attack.
A person, team, or argument is thoroughly beaten or refuted.
粉々になる emphasizes complete destruction into tiny pieces. 砕ける is for hard materials shattering. 割れる is for cracks or breaks, not necessarily into many pieces.

The box was smashed by the weight on top.
