Translation guide
A creed is a formal statement of beliefs, often religious or philosophical. In Japanese, the concept is expressed through specific terms for religious creeds, personal mottos, or guiding principles.
A formal statement of faith or doctrine, especially in Christianity.
A guiding principle or personal motto that one lives by.
信条 is the most common and versatile term for 'creed,' covering both religious and personal beliefs. 信仰告白 specifically refers to a confession or declaration of faith, often in a liturgical setting. 教義 refers to established doctrine or dogma, not a personal statement.
The English word 'creed' is often used loosely for any guiding principle. In Japanese, 信条 is the closest equivalent but may sound formal. For casual personal mottos, モットー or 座右の銘 are more natural.
