A form of natural selection where individuals with certain traits are more likely to attract mates and reproduce. In Japanese, this is a technical term from biology, most commonly expressed as 性選択 or 性淘汰.

In everyday conversation, the concept is rarely discussed. If you need to explain it to a non-specialist, you might say 「異性を惹きつけるための進化の仕組み」 (a mechanism of evolution for attracting the opposite sex) rather than using the technical term.
