To state that something is not connected to or does not affect something else.
The most common and versatile way to say 'unrelated' or 'has nothing to do with'. Can be used in casual and formal contexts.
To say that something is not relevant to the current topic or argument.
Do not directly translate 'unrelated' as 非関連 (ひかんれん) or 不関連 (ふかんれん); these are not natural Japanese. Use 関係ない or 無関係 instead.
それは今の話と関係ない。
That's unrelated to what we're talking about now.
年齢は能力に関係ない。
Age is unrelated to ability.
A more formal or written way to say 'unrelated'. Often used in official statements or academic contexts.
その事件は彼とは無関係です。
That incident is unrelated to him.
Literally 'a different story', used to indicate that something is a separate matter or unrelated topic.
それは別の話だ。
That's a different matter (unrelated).
A more literal translation meaning 'not related'. Less common in everyday speech; 関係ない is preferred.
この問題は前の議論に関係しない。
This issue is unrelated to the previous discussion.
Means 'off the mark' or 'irrelevant'. Used when a comment or idea is not pertinent.
彼の意見は的外れだ。
His opinion is irrelevant (unrelated).
Also works for 'irrelevant'. Very common.
そんなことは関係ないよ。
That's irrelevant.
