権 centers on the idea of holding official or social weight: authority, power, and the rights that come with them.
権 is the modern simplified form of 權. The older form combines 木 (wood) with 雚, which likely contributed the sound and originally referred to a type of tree or a scale beam, later extended to the idea of weighing authority.
The left side is a tree 木, and the right side looks like a bird 隹 with an arrow 矢 above it. Imagine a chief holding a wooden staff topped with a bird-and-arrow emblem as a symbol of authority and rights.
