netting, network
網 centers on interconnected threads forming a structure: a physical net or a conceptual network. The idea of netting and network both come from this same woven, linking pattern.
網 combines 糸 (thread) with 罔, which is an old net-like shape that likely contributed both sound and meaning. Together they express a net made of threads.
The left side 糸 is thread, and the right side 罔 looks like a net with its crisscrossing lines. Picture threads woven into a net that can catch things or form a network.
For モウ, imagine a fisherman mending his net while a cow moos nearby: moo -> モウ, and the net is made of threads.
