Archaic derogatory term for a monk who is noisy or makes a racket. Not used in modern Japanese outside of historical or literary contexts.
The noisy monk in the old tale was always shouting loudly.
Compound of かんかん (onomatopoeia for clanging or loud noise) and 坊主 (monk). The exact historical origin is uncertain.
