Colloquial name for the male Acrida cinerea, a grasshopper with a long, pointed head. Often used in contrast to the female, which is called 精霊飛蝗 (しょうりょうばった).

Obsolete term for a similar-looking grasshopper species, Gonista bicolor. Now rarely used; the modern name is 精霊飛蝗擬 (しょうりょうばったもどき).
