Expresses a minimal wish or concession: 'even if nothing else, at least this much'. Often used with ～たい, ～てほしい, or ～ば.

Used in the pattern せめてもの + noun, meaning 'the bare minimum of something' or 'the only (small) consolation'. Common with 慰め, 救い, 情け, etc.
