I'm told; apparently; is what I heard

Used at the end of a clause to indicate that the preceding information is hearsay, often from a specific source. Common in both spoken and written Japanese.

• 明日あしたは雨あめが降ふるとのことです。

  I'm told it will rain tomorrow.

• 彼かれは来らい月げつ転てん勤きんするとのことだ。

  Apparently he's being transferred next month.
