Used to add an extra item or factor, often in the pattern Nに加え(て). More formal than だけでなく.

• 日本にほん語ごに加くわえて英えい語ごも話はなせる。

  In addition to Japanese, I can also speak English.

• 大おお雨あめに加くわえ、強きょう風ふうも予よ想そうされている。

  Besides heavy rain, strong winds are also expected.
