Archaic term for a firefighting unit in Edo (old Tokyo). The name comes from the め (me) group designation used in the Edo fire service.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だい、め組ぐみは火ひ消けしの一いち団だんとして知しられていた。

  In the Edo period, the Me-gumi was known as a firefighting brigade.
