Historical timekeeping term referring to the first of five night watches in pre-modern Japan, roughly corresponding to 8-10pm. Not used in modern daily life.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だい、一いっ更こうは夜よるの最さい初しょの見み張はり時じ間かんだった。

  In the Edo period, the first watch was the initial night watch period.
