Refers to the dried flower bud of Syzygium aromaticum, used as a spice. The kanji 丁香 is the standard term; 丁子 (ちょうじ) and クローブ are common synonyms.
Adding a few cloves to curry improves the aroma.
Cloves are also used to remove gamey smells from meat dishes.
