godan verb (-ru)
to serve (humbly); to build as commanded (humbly)
Archaic humble verb (謙譲語) combining 仕える (to serve) and 奉る (humble auxiliary). Used when the speaker humbly serves or builds something for a superior. Not used in modern Japanese; encountered mainly in historical texts or period dramas.
古い文書には「主君に仕え奉る」と記されている。
In old documents, it is written 'to humbly serve one's lord.'
In modern Japanese, '仕え奉る' is replaced by expressions like 'お仕えする'.
