Historical term from the Edo period. Refers to a person who followed customers from one entertainment establishment to another to collect payment for the night's expenses, or more broadly, followers or hangers-on in such contexts.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だいの遊ゆう郭かくでは、付つき馬うまが客きゃくの後あとをついて回まわった。

  In the pleasure quarters of the Edo period, a bill collector (tsukiuma) would follow customers around.

• 「付つき馬うま」は、現げん代だいではほとんど使つかわれない歴れき史し用よう語ごだ。
