tsukuri-e; painting technique with opaque color overpainting

A traditional Japanese painting technique, especially associated with Heian-period emakimono, where initial ink outlines are covered with opaque mineral pigments and then redrawn.

• 源氏物語絵巻げんじものがたりえまきには作つくり絵えの技ぎ法ほうが使つかわれている。

  The tsukuri-e technique is used in the Genji Monogatari Emaki.
