Dejima; artificial island trading post in Nagasaki
Historical term for the fan-shaped artificial island in Nagasaki harbor, used as a Dutch (and earlier Portuguese) trading post during Japan's period of national isolation (1634–1854).
Dejima was Japan's only window to the West during the period of national isolation.
