Used in the pattern 〜には及ばない to say that something is not necessary or that one need not go to the trouble. Often polite and somewhat formal.

• わざわざ来くるには及およびません。

  There is no need for you to come all this way.

• 心しん配ぱいするには及およばないよ。

  You don't need to worry.

Used in the pattern 〜には及ばない to mean that one cannot equal or reach the level of someone or something. Often used in comparisons.

• 彼かれの実じつ力りょくには及およばない。

  I can't match his ability.

• この製せい品ひんはあのブランドの品ひん質しつには及およばない。

  This product doesn't come up to the quality of that brand.
