kabuki lift mechanism
A stage device in kabuki used to hoist an actor into the air, often for dramatic entrances or exits.
In kabuki, actors sometimes appear in midair using the lift mechanism.
Less common variant without okurigana.
Alternate kanji spelling; 釣 is more associated with fishing, but used here for lifting.
Compound of 吊り (tsuri, 'hanging') + 上げ (age, 'raising'), referring to a lifting device.
