喟き然ぜん

Archaic literary word describing a deep, audible sigh, often used with と or in the たる form. Found mainly in classical Chinese-influenced texts.

• 彼かれは喟き然ぜんとして嘆たん息そくした。

  He sighed deeply with a lament.

• 古こ典てんでは「喟き然ぜん」と書かいて「きぜん」と読よませる例れいがある。

  In classical texts, 喟然 is sometimes written and read as きぜん.
