Used in the context of China to refer to someone from a different province. Often contrasted with 本省人 (person from the same province).

Specifically refers to people who migrated from mainland China to Taiwan after World War II, and their descendants. Contrasted with 本省人 (native Taiwanese of Chinese descent who arrived before WWII).
