Historical term for women from the Ohara area of Kyoto who walked to the city to sell goods, often carrying bundles of firewood or charcoal on their heads. Now mostly a cultural reference or tourist image.
Oharame women used to come to Kyoto to sell firewood and charcoal.
In tourist areas, you can sometimes see women dressed as Oharame.
