Historical term for the formal procession of a daimyo and his retinue, especially during the sankin-kōtai system in the Edo period.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だい、大だい名みょう行ぎょう列れつが街かい道どうを通とおるときは、庶しょ民みんは道みちの端はしに寄よって頭あたまを下さげた。

  In the Edo period, when a daimyo's procession passed along the highway, commoners moved to the side of the road and bowed their heads.
