In the Kojiki, there are passages where 高天原 is read as たかまがはら.
「あめつち」という古い言い方は、天と地を意味する。
The old expression あめつち means heaven and earth.
Modern standard word for 'sky' or 'heaven'. あめ is its archaic equivalent, now mostly limited to historical or poetic contexts.
The reading あめ is the older native Japanese word for 'sky', later largely replaced by the Sino-Japanese てん. The alternate reading あま appears in compounds and may reflect an ancient combining form.
