leader; leading part
Technical computing term for the initial segment of a data structure, such as the leader of a magnetic tape or the beginning of a file. Not used in general conversation.
A mark indicating the start of data is recorded at the leader of the magnetic tape.
Compound of 始端 (start end) and 部 (part). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the spelling is conventionally associated with computing terminology.
