Archaic adverb meaning something happens on its own, without external cause, or by one's own nature. Not used in modern Japanese; found in classical literature.

• 古こ典てんでは、「おのれと花はなが散ちる」のように使つかわれることがある。

  In classical texts, it is sometimes used like 'the flowers scatter all by themselves.'
