A yōkai from the Tōhoku region, typically appearing as a red-faced child with bobbed hair. Believed to bring good fortune to the house it inhabits; its departure is said to herald decline.

• 東とう北ほく地ち方ほうでは、座ざ敷しきわらしがいる家いえは栄さかえると言いわれている。

  In the Tōhoku region, it is said that a house with a zashiki-warashi will prosper.

• 祖そ母ぼは子こ供どもの頃ころ、座ざ敷しきわらしを見みたことがあると話はなしてくれた。
