suru verb (special), transitive verb
Extremely rare, archaic, or literary transitive suru-verb. In modern Japanese, 持つ (もつ) or 維持する (いじする) are used instead. This form may appear only in very old texts or as a stylistic choice.
古い文献では「権威を持する」のような表現が見られることがある。
In old documents, expressions like 'to hold authority' can sometimes be found.
Derived from the kanji 持 (hold) with the classical suru-verb ending する. The exact historical derivation is uncertain; it is now obsolete.
