noun
decluttering
Colloquial term for the activity of discarding unnecessary possessions, often as a lifestyle trend. Similar to 断捨離 (danshari) but more casual.

I did some decluttering over the weekend and tidied up my room.
捨て活が趣味になって、物が減るのが楽しくなった。
Decluttering has become a hobby, and I've started to enjoy having fewer things.
断捨離 is a more formal, established concept of minimalism and letting go of attachments, while 捨て活 is a casual, trendy term focused on the act of throwing things away.
Blend of 捨てる (suteru, 'to throw away') and 活動 (katsudō, 'activity'), abbreviated to 活 (katsu). A modern colloquial coinage.
