Archaic shiku-adjective used in classical poetry to describe the season when spring has just begun but still feels wintry. Not used in modern everyday speech.
春浅し 風はまだ冷たく 梅の花ほころび始む
Spring is still shallow; the wind is still cold, and the plum blossoms are just beginning to open.
