noun
Amniota; amniotes
Scientific term for the clade of tetrapods that have an amnion during embryonic development; includes reptiles, birds, and mammals. Used in biology and paleontology.
See also: 羊膜類
有羊膜類は、爬虫類、鳥類、哺乳類を含むグループです。
Amniotes are a group that includes reptiles, birds, and mammals.
羊膜類 is a shorter synonym for the same taxon, but 有羊膜類 is the more explicit and commonly used term in Japanese scientific contexts.
From 有 (yū, 'having') + 羊膜 (yōmaku, 'amnion') + 類 (rui, 'group, category'), literally 'the group having an amnion'. A modern scientific coinage based on the taxonomic name Amniota.
