Historical classification under the ritsuryō legal codes. Refers to elderly men or those with minor disabilities who were subject to lighter tax and labor obligations. Related to 老丁 (old men) and 残疾 (lightly handicapped).
律令制では、次丁は老丁や残疾とともに課役が軽減されていた。
Under the ritsuryō system, jichō, along with rōchō and zanshitsu, had their tax and labor duties reduced.
