Archaic verb describing an ancient funerary practice where the deceased was placed in a coffin and mourned for a period before burial. This is a historical term not used in modern Japanese; modern equivalents would use phrases like 遺体を安置する or 通夜を行う.

• 古こ墳ふん時じ代だいには、貴き人じんが亡なくなると殯ひんす儀ぎ式しきが行おこなわれた。

  During the Kofun period, when a noble person died, the ritual of placing the body in a coffin and mourning was performed.

• 「殯ひんす」は、古こ代だいの葬そう送そう儀ぎ礼れいを指さす言こと葉ばとして文ぶん献けんに残のこっている。

  The word ひんす (殯す) remains in historical documents as a term for ancient funeral rites.
