A mechanical analog computing device consisting of two logarithmic scales that slide against each other, used for multiplication, division, and other calculations. Now largely replaced by electronic calculators.

Compound of 滑り (すべり, 'sliding') and 尺 (じゃく, 'ruler, scale'). The term is a direct calque of English 'slide rule'.
