番ばんを張はる

Colloquial expression used for the leader of a youth gang or group of delinquents. Often associated with the term 番長 (banchō).

• 彼かれは中ちゅう学がくのとき、地じ元もとで番ばんを張はっていたらしい。

  Apparently he was the boss of the local gang when he was in junior high.

• あのグループで番ばんを張はるのは大たい変へんだ。
