臥所ふしど

Archaic or literary term for a place to sleep; in modern Japanese, 寝室 (しんしつ) or ベッドルーム are far more common. May appear in historical texts or poetry.

• 古ふるい物もの語がたりでは、貴き族ぞくの臥所ふしどが絹きぬの布ふ団とんで飾かざられていたと記しるされている。

  In old tales, it is written that the noble's bedchamber was adorned with silk futons.

• 「臥所ふしど」は現げん代だいではほとんど使つかわれず、代かわりに「寝しん室しつ」が一いっ般ぱん的てきだ。

  Nowadays, 臥所 is hardly used; 寝室 is the common word instead.
