Often used for sharing food, gifts, or small windfalls with neighbors or colleagues. The polite form お裾分け is very common.

裾 (すそ, 'hem' or 'lower part') + 分け (わけ, 'dividing'). Originally referred to dividing the lower part of a kimono or a portion of something received, later generalized to sharing a part of any gift or profit.
