Rare literary term for hesitation or vacillation. In modern Japanese, 躊躇 (ちゅうちょ) or ためらい are far more common.
In old texts, 躑躅 can be used to mean hesitation.
Rare kanji spelling for azalea. The standard modern spelling is ツツジ (usually in katakana or hiragana). This kanji form is almost never used for the flower in contemporary writing.
