Primarily a religious term referring to a group selected by God, especially in Judeo-Christian contexts. Also used metaphorically for any group that considers itself specially selected.

The Jewish people are regarded as God's chosen people in the Old Testament.
彼らは自分たちを選民だと思っているようだ。
They seem to think of themselves as the chosen ones.
