Obsolete term for a capital or major city. Not used in modern Japanese; the modern word is 首都 (しゅと) for 'capital' or 都市 (とし) for 'city'.

• 古ふるい文ぶん献けんでは「都と府ふ」が都みやこを指さすことがある。

  In old documents, 都府 can refer to the capital.
