rope made of hair
A rope or cord made from human hair. Rare and largely historical; encountered in descriptions of traditional crafts or old objects.
At the museum, a hair rope from the Edo period was on display.
Compound of 髪 (かみ, 'hair') and 綱 (つな, 'rope'), with rendaku voicing of つな to づな. The exact historical derivation is uncertain, but the word transparently means 'hair rope'.
