wheat-straw whistle
A simple whistle made from a wheat stalk, often associated with rural childhood play.
When I was a child, I often made wheat-straw whistles and played with them.
Compound of 麦 (mugi, 'wheat') and 笛 (fue, 'whistle'). The reading ぶえ is a rendaku form of ふえ.
