A Shinto ceremony where a newborn baby (usually about one month old) is taken to a shrine for the first time to receive blessings.

A general term for visiting a shrine, though in modern usage it is strongly associated with the newborn ceremony. The simpler 宮参り can also carry this broader meaning.
