してやる

Usage patterns

• 〈人ひと〉に〈動どう詞し〉てやるto do something for someone, often with a nuance of condescension or magnanimity

  弟おとうとに宿しゅく題だいを手伝てつだってやった。

  I helped my little brother with his homework (as a favor).

• 〈人ひと〉にしてやられるto be outwitted or gotten the better of by someone

  まんまと敵てきにしてやられた。

  I was completely outfoxed by my opponent.

• 〈人ひと〉に〈物もの〉を買かってやるto buy something for someone, often a subordinate or child, as a favor

  子こ供どもにおもちゃを買かってやった。

  I bought my kid a toy as a treat.

• してやったりan exclamation of triumph upon successfully tricking or outdoing someone

  してやったり、と彼かれはにやりと笑わらった。

  "Got him!" he thought, smirking.
