nevertheless; even so; be that as it may

Used to acknowledge a preceding statement while introducing a contrasting or qualifying point. Often implies 'that may be true, but still...' or 'having said that...'. Can also be used to change the subject or express surprise.

  He's very busy. Even so, he should at least be able to make a phone call.

  It's really hot today. Nevertheless, it's better than yesterday.
