Attaches to nouns or verb stems. Used with a negative predicate to indicate that the preceding thing is far from being the case, or that the situation is not at a level where something can be done. Often translates as 'far from', 'not the time for', or 'not the level for'.

• 忙いそがしくて、遊あそぶどころではない。

  I'm so busy that this is no time for playing.

• 彼かれは謝あやまるどころか、逆ぎゃくに怒おこり出だした。

  Far from apologizing, he got angry instead.
