Usage patterns

• 〈物もの〉のヘムを上あげるto shorten a hem (take it up)

  スカートのヘムを少すこし上あげてもらった。

• 〈物もの〉のヘムを下さげるto lengthen a hem (let it down)

  パンツのヘムを下さげて丈たけを伸のばした。

  I let down the hem of the pants to make them longer.

  My mother re-sewed the hem of the old curtains.

• ヘムがほつれるfor a hem to come undone/fray
