Attaches to a number to express a duration or a point in time measured in months. The reading かげつ is used for numbers 1–10; for 11 and above, かげつ is still used, but ヶ月 may be read as かげつ or sometimes こげつ in certain contexts (though かげつ is standard).

  I have been studying Japanese for three months.
